Corporate social responsibility
Responsible business practice, not a slogan.
How we think about our effects on people, communities and the environment, and how we help clients structure the same.
What CSR means to us
Corporate social responsibility is how an organisation understands and takes responsibility for its effects on the environment and on social welfare, including effects beyond the minimum a regulator requires. As UNIDO describes it, CSR balances economic, environmental and social imperatives while remaining accountable to shareholders and other stakeholders.
Practice, not only philanthropy
Structured CSR is different from a charitable donation. Donations can be part of a programme, but they are not the programme. A responsible approach looks at how the business itself operates, who it affects, and how economic, environmental and social considerations are held together over time.
Regulatory context in India
Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 and the Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Rules, 2014 set mandatory CSR duties for companies that meet specified criteria. Whether those duties apply to a particular company is a legal question; this website does not determine applicability and is not legal advice.
This page is general information about CSR concepts and Indian CSR rules. It is not legal advice.
